Daily Dean #1, Where It Starts

From the vault: my very first Instagram post. May 24, 2014. No caption. Didn’t need one.

Look at this kid. Black t-shirt that says “Fresh”, which is doing a LOT of heavy lifting, khakis, a mic in his face, and a stool with nobody’s drink on it. Wood paneling. Acoustic panels. A room the size of a two-car garage, and I am performing like it's a stadium.

That's the whole job, honestly. You start out telling jokes to rooms that could double as storage units, you believe in the bit way more than the bit deserves, and you keep the mic that close to your mouth because you're afraid if you let it drift even an inch, the moment gets away from you.

No caption on the post, because 2014 me thought the photo spoke for itself. He was right, just not in the way he thought. It says: this guy is not stopping.

Same guy now, on the roster at Comedy Works, won the 2026 New Faces Contest, out on the road hosting THE DOSE, and the rooms got bigger. The khakis retired. The belief didn’t.

This is the Daily Dean. Every day I’m digging up the next post in order, the whole archaeology of a comedy career, one photo at a time, until we catch up to now. Tomorrow: post #2. I had a caption by then. Growth.
